Uniform Supermarket Category Reference (“USCR”)

MicroNEX subscribes to the Uniform Supermarket Category Reference (“USCR”) open standard for tracking and analyzing product sales.

Customers receive numerous benefits by adopting USCR.

  • By taking advantage of the efforts of a broadly based standards group, grocers are spared the expense of developing their own proprietary coding scheme.

  • USCR is superior to many home-grown structures because few grocers can match the experience and perspective of a cross industry task group. The standards group, for example, considers factors that are easily overlooked as category standards are designed — such as the close connection between Category Management and Customer Relationship Management.

  • Adopting a standard also helps grocers gain insight by making it easier for grocers to compare their product sales to industry and geographic reports.

The latest release — USCR9.1.b — may be viewed and downloaded from this site. The release consists of 855 product categories. (CRISP users who devise their own category structures may code up to 900,000 non-standard categories).

The Grocery and Alcohol Beverage industries are both incorporated in the USCR release. The Alcohol Beverage market is also reported separately.
